ICSI (INTRACYTOPLASMIC SPERM INJECTION)



The micromanipulation method (ICSI) is recommended as an alternative to the standard IVF procedure. Using this method, every ovum is injected with the most suitable sperm cell (with the best properties).

ICSI is recommended for the following:

  • treatment of male infertility (lowered sperm count, lower sperm cell motility, etc.)
  • scenarios in which the sperm cells are surgically gathered
  • in a low oocyte count
  • in immunological causes of infertility
  • if standard IVF procedure fails
  • in patients of older age, when using cryopreserved sperm, when using donor sperm or ova
  • and in some other cases

The method demonstrates a very high success rate. Despite active inference with natural selection principles, no increased genetic risk has been clearly demonstrated.
